In Phase: BT lights up the Tower for Comic Relief...
The 7th February saw the  BT Tower lit up with an amazing array of red lights as Comic Relief 2003 was launched by Graham Norton and Angellica Bell. The PR campaign was organised by Grayling and the specialist lighting was supplied by Fourth Phase.

Corporate Social Responsibility

As part of its corporate 'Better World' policy, BT has a remit for championing major social and environmental initiatives and improvements...

"We aim to be at the heart of the information society - in which everyone, irrespective of nationality, culture, ethnicity, class, creed or education, has access to the benefits of information and communications."

Beth Courtier, head of charity programmes at BT...

"Turning BT Tower red has been a fun challenge and one that we hope will be a really visible way of encouraging everybody to get out there, get involved and raise some cash."

Justin McKeown from PR company, Grayling puts this into perspective...

"What we've demonstrated through our ground-breaking work with BT's Social Policy Unit is how to engage employees, the public and the media in the company's commitment to corporate social responsibility - and make it fun! People need to be interested in CSR activities before they will examine the reasons for BT's support of telethons, charities and the community - and effective use of PR is essential in reinforcing BT's values."

The management of Light Straw concurs...

"CSR, isn't as complicated as it sounds. Taking part in fund raising events can be really fun and you often get to see and do things out of the ordinary. For example, when was the last time you saw the BT Tower ablaze with colour?"

Grayling CSR account team undertook a huge stunt, on behalf of client BT, to kick off this year’s Red Nose Day fund-raising drive - and it was screened live on BBC 6 O’clock News. Grayling was responsible for project management, event management and PR.

Fourth Phase

Fourth Phase generates Comic Relief

Back in September 2002, Grayling PR was involved in the initial planning meeting where the idea of turning the Tower red was first floated as part of a documentary about Comic Relief for Children's BBC. Grayling got in touch with lighting and large format projection specialist Fourth Phase London. James Wright from Grayling said: "We opted to use Fourth Phase because they knew what they were talking about and have a good track record with events such as this!"

Fourth Phase London, provides lighting and projection equipment for any event, which can include design, consultancy and production services as part of the overall solution.

Specialising in a full range of rental equipment, with the option of an experienced on-site crew, allows Fourth Phase to offer a competitive service. And with the support of its in-house team for technical advice, and  freelance lighting designers if required, provides a professional service, giving spectacular results as can be seen opposite.
