The Track Layout (1961 -1977)

The author examines the points at the bend by the boating lake. To the right can be seen the disused track, overgrown with grass.

Previously these points had formed part of the 'dumb-bell' loop. I suspect that the layout was changed between end of season 1965 and the start of season 1967.

Below, we see a detailed plan of the track between 1961 and 1977.

A much simplified, composite diagram of the various track layouts (not to scale).
The Miniature Railway- Track Plan
1 and 5 (black) are the original 'dumbell loops' which were linked by 3 (yellow) when the miniature railway first operated circa 1961.

By circa 1965 a new circuit was formed by 3 (yellow) and 4 (red), as the loops were removed.

The points in the plan (2).

Approaching the Turrets
In the photo opposite, the track (at 2) immediately in front of the engine curves to the left, but the remaining track turns to the right, hence a very sharp bend.
